McMahon Company

McMahon Company was founded by Bernie McMahon in the late 1950’s. Bernie began his career with The Hartford as a special agent, which in those days would be akin to our modern day field underwriter. As the agency grew from its early beginnings, Bernie also became involved with the legislative process and often lobbied on behalf of the independent agent. Bernie was also instrumental in bringing the Certified Insurance Counselors program to Connecticut.

The agency was located in Rocky Hill, which was Bernie’s hometown. The original name of the agency was not The McMahon Company, Inc. The original name was Insurance Counselors of Hartford until 1970 when a fire destroyed the office and all records and files of clients. Bernie, with the help of many, put the agency back together and renamed it The McMahon Company Inc.

Bernie operated the agency until 1985 when he sold his interest to his son Mark and daughter-in-law Mary. Bernie then retired to enjoy his golden years. Blaine Kaiser joined the agency in 1987 as producer and office manager. In late 1987 Mark and Mary wanted to pursue other business interests and Blaine became the principal of the agency and along with Bernie as his mentor built a successful and highly respected independent agency. The agency prided itself in providing insurance protection to small business owners throughout Connecticut with a special interest in jewelers, artisan contractors, automobile service and transportation industries. The McMahon Company operated in its Rocky Hill location until joining Smith Brothers in Glastonbury January 1, 2015.

McMahon Company is proud to be a part of the Smith Brothers family providing the continued professionalism to each client through respect, integrity and honesty
